We’re not really farmers by training, birth, or any of the other reasons people typically get into this kind of thing. We just got tired of 40 hours a week behind desks and decided to see what it’s like to have work with physical rewards.

History
We used to be two engineers in San Francisco. Now we’re a husband-and-wife team, one part time engineer and two full time farmers. We got married in October 2010, and in a lot of ways, the farm is our honeymoon. We didn’t have a big trip anywhere – we just moved back to PA and started the whole process. Third Root Farm is our take on organically-minded farming. Chickens, bees, veggies, and hopefully more to come. 3RF was founded in 2011.
Our two-acre farm is located on about 98 acres of property in Wilmot Township, Bradford County, PA. Third Root is run by us, Nick and Allie. Because (a) we’re so new at this and (b) the soil was unimproved for so long, we have no idea how things will turn out this year. If all goes well, we’ll have enough food to feed us, with some left over to sell.
